Joel Laakso

Cello

Joel Laakso is the principal cellist of The Royal Danish Orchestra.

He has performed widely around most of the European countries, as well as in the USA, South America, China, Hong Kong, Japan, and Australia.

Joel has received prizes in several cello and chamber music competitions, winning a piano trio competition in Savonlinna at 2000 together with his sister, pianist Anna Laakso, and violinist Maija Linkola.

As a soloist he has performed with Finnish Radio Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta and Royal Danish Orchestra.

While serving a long tenure as cellist of the New Helsinki String Quartet, he also shared the stage with artists like Ana Chumachenko, Cho-Liang Lin, Olli Mustonen and Charles Neidich.

Joel studied at the Sibelius Academy with Martti Rousi, Hannu Kiiski, Erkki Rautio, Marcel Bergman and at the Edsberg Institute/Stockholm with Torleif Thedeen.

He is playing on an instrument by Nicola Amati, kindly loaned to him by The Royal Danish Orchestra.


Joel Laakso er 1. solocellist i det Kongelige Kapel. Han har optrådt i de fleste Europæiske lande, og også i USA, Sydamerika, Kina, Hong Kong, Japan, og Australien.

Joel har vundet adskillige cello- og kammermusik priser, og vandt i 2000 en klavertrio konkurrence i Savonlinna, hvori han spillede sammen med hans søster, pianist Anna Laakso, og violinist Maija Linkola.

Han har spillet som solist i den Finske Radioorkester, Tapiola Sinfonietta, og det Kongelige Kapel.

I hans langvarige ansættelse som cellist i New Helsinki String Quartet, samarbejdede han med kunstnere som Ana Chumachenko, Cho-Liang Lin, Olli Mustonen, og Charles Neidich.
