About Equinox Chamber Music
Equinox Chamber Music is a spring festival bringing together international-calibre musicians from a dozen countries for a diverse series of concerts in Copenhagen, Denmark. It was founded by two friends who were inspired by an intensive week of chamber music which brought back fond memories of the pure joy and fun of their youthful summer festival experiences.
The musicians have many close relationships to each other, including sisters, a husband and wife, former and current chamber ensemble partners, and numerous colleagues (and friends!) from the Royal Danish Orchestra.
There are programs taking place in a variety of venues around the city, both traditional and more casual - one of our goals is to share our enthusiasm for chamber music with a wide audience that might not encounter classical music in their daily lives.
Though Equinox is an international festival, it has close ties to the community in Copenhagen. A new addition for 2019 was a composition workshop offered to students at the Royal Danish Academy of Music by London-based contemporary music specialists, the Ligeti String Quartet. The festival collaborates with various organizations including charities, hospitals, prisons, and local community centres. Chamber music has the ability to be both intimate and expansive, allowing the musicians to reach and connect with their audience.
We hope you will be inspired by this talented group of artists who join together this year for the simple love of chamber music.
